I am a qualified, freelance proofreader and former police officer. I am fully proficient in the use of British Standards Institution (BSI) symbols (2005). I am passionate about producing accurate, high-quality written material and documents to enhance the professional image of the individual or company. 1990 - 2011I was a police officer for almost 26 years prior to retirement. During this time I worked in various supervisory police roles including operational, investigative and intelligence, which involved dealing with many incidents and providing instruction and briefing people at all levels, within and external to the organisation.
I had a high level of UK security clearance enabling correct management and handling of material in accordance with GSC (Government Security Classifications - previously referred to as Government Protected Marking Scheme [GPMS]) and worked with various government departments and agencies.
In one role, I ensured products were accurate, relevant and contained the necessary intelligence and information for the customer, whilst complying with the business model; I ensured such material was appropriately sanitized with relevant caveats when disseminated. I compiled several strategic documents including: strategic control rationales to advise national partner agencies of departmental aims and operational protocols; Business Continuity Plans which involved numerous considerations internally and externally.
In a specific area of business, I successfully introduced a system of translations to address communication between police, partner agencies and non-English speakers. These translations were positively received by all parties, enhancing working relationships and the professionalism of the department.
