Summary

The use of Transcendental Meditation® (TM) by business people for the benefit of their business is well established around the world.
The reason for this is that the challenges facing businesses become more manageable following the deep refreshment of mind and body promoted by TM.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi® introduced TM to the West in 1959 and around 6 million people have learned since then through a very accessible course which makes greater success in business almost a certainty, without the downside of burnout. Remarkable, and remarkably consistent, scientific research, peer-reviewed and published in prestigious journals, shows that TM has lost its 1960’s hippy image and warrants an integral position in 21st century business life.
Maharishi Foundation® is an educational charity established in 1975 for the advancement of the education of the public by:
1) Offering courses of instruction to the public that will promote the mental and creative development of the individual, including Transcendental Meditation® (TM) and related advanced techniques.
2) Establishing, conducting and maintaining an institution of further education and additional educational facilities.
3) Making grants to other charities.

What is Transcendental Meditation® (TM)?

TM is a simple, natural, effortless process practiced 15-20 minutes twice daily while sitting comfortably with eyes closed. It is unique among techniques of meditation, distinguished by its effortlessness, naturalness and profound effectiveness.
TM allows your mind to settle inward, beyond thought, to experience the silent reservoir of energy, creativity and intelligence found within everyone—a natural state of restful alertness. During the practice, your brain functions with significantly greater coherence and your body gains deep rest.
Daily practice of TM unfolds the mind’s inner potential and awakens the brain’s latent resources, directly enriching all aspects of life.
TM is not a religion or philosophy and involves no change in lifestyle. It is easy to learn and enjoyable to practice, requiring no effort, concentration or special skills. Anyone can learn it—even children.
The unique state of restful alertness produced during TM practice dissolves stress and fatigue, promoting balanced functioning of mind and body and more harmonious behaviour.

Scientific Research

Scientific research on TM has shown that the daily experience of this state of restful alertness leads to increased creativity, improved learning ability, higher IQ, better moral reasoning, more efficient brain functioning, stress relief and a wide array of health benefits—ranging from normalized blood pressure, reduced need for doctor visits, to a younger biological age - in some cases.

The scientific research on TM is the largest and strongest body of research in the world on any technique to develop human potential. Over 600 scientific studies, 340 peer-reviewed, conducted at 250 independent universities and institutions in 33 countries and published in over 100 leading scientific journals have documented that TM benefits every sphere of life: physiological, psychological, sociological, and ecological. The findings in each area of study have been replicated many times, and meta-analyses, which are the most quantitatively rigorous means to review a body of research, have found a high degree of consistency of the results. Studies using the most sophisticated, rigorous research methodologies that are designed to prove causality have strongly verified and extended preliminary findings. This demonstrates that Maharishi’s TM causes the wide range of benefits in mental potential, health, and social behaviour.
Research conducted around the world documents that TM is effective for all cultural and ethnic groups. All age groups benefit, from increased alertness in infants of meditating parents to increased health, happiness, and longevity in meditating elderly. TM can be learned successfully by anyone no matter their level of education or status in society.

Learning TM

The first step is to come to a free introductory talk about Transcendental Meditation® to hear from an experienced teacher how Transcendental Meditation will benefit you and how it differs from other practices, and have your questions answered. Everyone interested in learning more about Transcendental Meditation is invited, and it's completely free of charge without obligation to learn (1 hour - free).
Introductory talks are held regularly in Manchester and the surrounding areas. Personal appointments are also available on request.

The next step

The course consists of four 90-minute sessions on consecutive days followed by regular one-to-one sessions with the teacher, as well as periodic seminars over the first six months to ensure you are meditating correctly and enjoying the benefits. Even after the first instruction you will be able to meditate on your own at home.

After the course

TM will just be an enjoyable part of your daily routine. However, there is a range of meditators' meetings, weekend courses and advanced courses for those who wish to participate.

Courses are taught by qualified teachers who have spent at least six months in full-time training designed and supervised by Maharishi Foundation on behalf of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of TM.

Course Fees

To make learning TM open to as many people as possible while covering our costs, the fee for learning TM is income-related. You are given six-months of support to help you get the most out of your meditation.

Area of Expertise

EXPERTISE OF NATURE RUNS THROUGH TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION® (TM)

For something that brings so many benefits, some unexpected, this technique is remarkably easy to learn and also effortless to perform; this is due to the great expertise of the technique and its method of delivery:
• Teachers are advanced meditators who are trained comprehensively and tested over a minimum of 6 months in how to customise TM to suit the individual learner;
• TM is taught in a uniform method throughout the world and, to maintain that quality of excellence, teachers take regular Continuing Professional Development
• This high level of competence is only to the good of meditators for they may surely rely on the very best instruction based on the 5,000 year tradition of teaching TM;
• It gives benefits from day 1 of the course, although not always overtly, and because it keeps on giving, meditators keep on doing it; this is the meeting the objective to make meditators self-sufficient in their practice;
• Underpinning the competence of the human element is the simplicity of nature from which the technique emerges.
Teachers do not coach: Any changes in behaviour or health occur spontaneously.
Teachers do not counsel: Problems diminish after a sitting of TM.
Teachers do not preach a religion, or philosophy; nor do they urge positive thinking.
TM is in essence a mechanical technique performed easily in the mind and, done regularly, forms the basis for personal growth, which is the pre-requisite for sustainable success.
Scientists have great expertise in tracing the linkage between cause and effect, and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, himself a graduate scientist, insisted from his revival of TM in 1959 that the effects could be well documented in natural science.
And so it has proved to be: TM is now taught on a firm foundation of an evidence base validated by top-grade scientists around the world.
This large body of work has convinced many corporations, Sony, Ford, and General Motors, to make TM available to their work-force. It is also in use in many educational establishments as well as the Justice system as an effective method of rehabilitation.
