Website design is a form of modern day art and is an important tool in any company’s marketing strategy. The reason your website design needs to be creative is because it will be the first point of reference for your customers or clients. Creating your website like you would a piece of art is important as you need to create the wow factor on your website, especially with so much competition in the market place. Although it is vital that you create a special look and feel, there are a number of different factors to consider when designing your website. A big part of your site design is making sure that you include clear calls to action, to make it as easy as possible convincing your potential customer to order buy a product from your website, or buy your product offline. When building your site it is important to make sure that take into account Search Engine Optimisation as there is no point having a well-designed website if no one can find it in the natural results. Also when designing your website you needs to make sure that have you decided what you want to do with the site in terms of functionally. It is important that you include interactive elements as this will keep the user on your website for as long as possible. How interactive your website is will have an effect on what programming language you use to build your website, as easy language has its advantages and disadvantages in what it will allow you to do when building your site. Although most programming will allow you to the same things, it can be difficult to build a website in asp compared to php, so it will be the developer’s choice in regards to what language will perform the functionality the user wants. Also when you choosing your programming language, you need to consider what server you are going to be hosting the website on, as this will need to be either in Linux or Windows, based on the programme language you are using. Another key area when designing your website is to decide whether you are going to be using open source or an enterprise solution. If you choose an enterprise solution it means you are linked into the company you sign with and it may be difficult to move your website over to someone else since the design company owns your content management system. If you are using an open source platform it is easier to get support for the community and move your website if your website company is performing and meeting your needs. Using open source coding allows you keep updated more with changes in the market, as the community is bigger around for an open source instead of an enterprise solution where the responsibility lies with just that company.
