CHARGING THE WAY: HOW TO MAKE NET ZERO A REALITY…

With the rise of electric mobility and the increasing sales of electric vehicles (EVs), there is a growing demand among drivers for home charging stations that are efficient and user-friendly. To meet this demand, the concept of smart charging has emerged, which provides insights into charging behaviour and energy consumption, allowing drivers to manage the charging process effectively. Smart charging can also help to reduce costs by enabling drivers to make informed decisions about when and how to charge their vehicles.

In this blog, we will explore the top five benefits of smart charging and how they can enhance efficiency, convenience, and cost-effectiveness for EV drivers as well as how this is a practical solution for racing our Net Zero goals.

CHARGING TOWARDS NET ZERO: WHY ELECTRIC CARS ARE THE CLEAR WINNER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Compared to petrol or diesel cars, electric vehicles are generally considered more environmentally friendly based on various factors, except for the carbon intensity associated with their manufacturing process. However, it’s worth noting that this could change as economies of scale are achieved through mass production.

HERE ARE SOME MORE KEY BENEFITS OF EV CHARGING ON THE ENVIRONMENT…
Electric vehicles (EVs) are capable of producing zero tailpipe emissions, as they don’t generate exhaust like traditional vehicles. This is because traditional engines burn gasoline or diesel, which results in harmful carbon emissions. In contrast, EVs use batteries, such as lithium-ion batteries, which are emission-free and can be charged repeatedly without contributing to air pollution.
Despite some electric charging stations being powered by coal-burning power plants and other harmful energy sources, electric vehicles (EVs) still result in lower emissions overall compared to traditional gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles. In fact, we have seen a 20% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by adopting EVs.
EVs produce minimal on-road air pollution, but their battery production can be harmful if not done responsibly. Most EV emissions result from battery manufacturing, with inconsistent industry standards resulting in larger carbon footprints. However, EV batteries now have a 2-3 times lower carbon footprint than just two years ago, with a trend toward continued improvement. To reduce the carbon footprint of battery production, EV manufacturers are setting guidelines for their battery suppliers to use only renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power. These sources can provide large amounts of energy without producing harmful emissions.
EVs are emission-free once manufactured, apart from coal-powered charging stations. Battery manufacturing is the primary source of an EV’s emissions, which can be measured before the vehicle is operational. On the other hand, ICE vehicles emit CO2 whenever their engines are running, with the average passenger vehicle emitting 5-6 metric tons of CO2 annually. Studies reveal that ICE vehicles surpass EVs’ well-to-wheel emissions within 6-18 months of operation. With millions of ICE vehicles worldwide, emissions remain a severe concern. An EV powered by renewable energy will remain emission-free indefinitely.
EV manufacturers face a major hurdle in creating functional, lightweight vehicles that offer extended range and lower carbon emissions. Traditional materials pose challenges in achieving this goal, but eco-friendly materials like recycled and organic ones are now comparable in strength, durability, and weight, enabling manufacturers to overcome this obstacle. While conventional manufacturers use recycled materials for small components, EV manufacturers are leading the way in utilising and enhancing eco-friendly materials to develop lighter and more efficient vehicles.
MAKING THE SWITCH TO EV: HOW CAN IEM360 HELP?

Our mission is to defend the earth from energy and carbon waste by challenging the outdated energy supply chain and the way buildings are managed. The use of renewable EV Charging, is a crucial aspect of this mission. We strive to make the accessibility of these resources more convenient than ever before, with the goal of reducing energy costs and helping businesses meet Net Zero targets. Our approach is centred around assisting businesses in implementing strategies that reduce energy consumption and expenditure simultaneously. By utilising our innovative Energy as a Service “subscription” model, businesses can benefit from risk-free and debt-free measures that save both energy and money.
