The Daily Mail today reports that couples can help keep the passion alive in their Marriage by adhering to stereotypical gender roles, with the wife undertaking the household chores, and men sticking to the more "manly" tasks of DIY and mechanics. A US study, upon which the article is based, suggests that adopting a stronger masculine and feminine images respectively increases attractiveness to the other partner and so encourages more amorous advances. It goes on the report that couples who adhere to the traditional model enjoy 1.6 more visits to the bedroom over the course of a year. As a Divorce Lawyer, my experience has often been the reverse, with many disgruntled spouses citing a lack of help around the household as one of the factors leading to the downfall of the marriage. Men should therefore take heed-refusing to take out the bins or get to work with the hoover may have a short-term gain, but could have long-term consequences!!
